L.A. Noire is different. It's not like most video games developed by Rockstar. You don't play the outlaw running wild, free to kill, steal, and cause destruction. You're a cop. A good cop at that, determined to restore order to the violent streets of 1940s Los Angeles.( IGNCollapse )( GamespotCollapse )( JoystiqCollapse )

Though short on details, Valve hasn't wasted any time confirming its plans for Portal 2 DLC. After a massive launch just over a week ago – Valve says Portal 2 is its "fastest-selling" release since Half-Life 2
! – the famously generous developer has outlined what it's calling "Portal 2 DLC #1."
For the asking price of $0, DLC #1 will offer "new test chambers for players, leaderboards, challenge mode for single and multiplayer modes, and more
." While free DLC on the Steam-powered PC and Mac platforms is nothing unusual coming from Valve, DLC #1 will notably be "free of charge" on Xbox 360 and PS3
as well. Of course, adding Steam to the PlayStation 3 release was always intended to allow for this scenario, and we can only imagine Microsoft didn't feel comfortable with the Xbox 360 being the sole platform charging for otherwise free content.
Portal 2 DLC #1 is "targeted" for release this summer
; it's not clear if that estimate is Normal Time or Valve Time, so don't mark up your Stephen Merchant calendars just yet.source+press release

Sony says PSN 'intrusion' compromised personal info; hopes to have 'some services' back 'within a week'
Nearly six days in, and Sony has finally sent out an email to the millions of affected PSN users explaining the prolonged downtime, and elaborating on the security implications of the "external intrusion" of the PlayStation Network. The most important new detail: Sony has determined that there has been "a compromise of personal information" as a result of the attack. The second most important new detail: "We have a clear path to have PlayStation Network and Qriocity systems back online, and expect to restore some services within a week."
So, what did the bad guys manage to steal? Uhh ... just about everything, it seems. Here's what's in the definitely jacked column: "name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID."
Our takeaway: you'd better start changing passwords if you use the same one frequently
. We'll leave the decision on whether or not to pack your bags and move away up to you.In the possibly jacked column: "profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers."
That leaves your credit card information, which ... well, we'll let Sony tell you itself: "If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained."
Sony provides a bunch of links for consumers to keep an eye on their data. Most important is probably the free credit report services. It also cautions PSN users to change their password when the service is back online. Lastly, while they never directly say as much, we're going to suggest making PSN purchases through other retailers instead of directly on Sony's service. Well, when it works again. But after that, stock up on some PSN points cards from anywhere else.SOURCEDamn. If you use PSN, definitely recommend changing your passwords, especially those for sites involving money eg PayPal, Amazon, etc.
I believe that there’s a common displacement of logic between women and their dating standards. Now, I wont get into ALLLLL the problems on women & their dating habits, (don’t get me started!) I’m talking specifically about dating gamers!
Let me first clarify that when I say women, I’m talking about the everyday girl who paints her nails, goes out dancing with her girlfriends, talks on the phone, obsesses over twilight and does not play video games. (With the exception of Nintendo Wii, SOMETIMES.)
With gamers, I don’t mean the dudes who play Madden with their “bros” while smashing beer cans over their forehead after making a touchdown, or the die-hard obsessive sockers that play World of Warcraft. (Good luck with dating guys! Not tryin to hate.. just sayin’…) The type of gamers I’m talking about are the men who generally spend all their time playing video games on PC, Xbox 360 and/or PS3 every day and don’t have very many hobbies outside of their own virtual world.( Read more...Collapse )Source
What do you think ONTD? Should girls date more gamers? Gamer guys, what's your take?
Various scientific and medical studies performed over the past few years have shown video games to cause violent behavior, obesity, and crooked fingers among young people, but at least we still have our teeth - or do we?que the actual motherfucking fuck? everything can be blamed on anything if you look deep enough and want to see it :/ i also want to put lolquotes or ~~~ around all the tags bc this is too stupid.
A new study, run by the University of Iowa, has linked frequent video game playing to poor oral health. The study, conducted on children age 12 through 16, suggests that the dietary habits associated with frequent computer and console game use are conducive to tooth decay. Basically, when kids play video games, they eat and drink crap.
It's worth noting that children also eat and drink crap when watching television, reading books, or whenever their parents aren't watching. This is likely due to the fact that crap is delicious.
The study also found that children with parents who structure their video game playing time are less likely to suffer the ravages of tooth decay, as they are more likely to eat regular meals as well.
I guess the whole point of this study, as with just about any study about tooth care, is that you should regularly brush and floss your teeth. Gargling with Mountain Dew isn't going to make your smile more extreme.
If only there were some sort of point system for brushing...
I'm not sure why the University of Iowa decided to single out gamers here. We generally keep our mouths aimed at the screen, so bad breath and tooth decay isn't an issue. Just stay downwind and you'll be fine.

At E3, Nintendo will be introducing new hardware, the Nintendo 3DS.
In an official release, Nintendo describes the portable as allowing games to be "enjoyed with 3D effects without the need for any special glasses". It is not yet known how the 3D effects will work, but it is possible that it could work like this Japan-only DSiWare game.( More Nintendo-ness this wayCollapse )Source I'm sick of the 3D wank personally. As usual I'll keep it real with my DSLite
